Ten Penn State students enrolled in the Philadelphia regional general engineering degree program presented senior capstone projects at the annual Design Expo, held recently at Penn State Great Valley.Engineering faculty Kathryn Jablokow and Douglas Schumer introduced the two teams and their projects, which involved creating a new product with the support of industry sponsors. The expo consisted of the capstone presentations as well as a robotics engineering exhibit, embedded software engineering projects developed by juniors in the program, and a self-guided tour of the engineering lab.Members of the public and judging panels of industry experts and Penn State faculty voted on their favorite project. It was demonstrated at Design Expo 17, which was open to juniors and seniors in the major.Regina BrosciusAbout the multidisciplinary engineering option of the Penn State engineering degreeThe multidisciplinary engineering design (MDE) option of the Penn State general engineering degree is delivered by a consortium composed of Penn State Abington, Penn State Brandywine, and Penn State Great Valley. Students spend the first two years at either Abington or Brandywine building a foundation in engineering and robotics. The design thread sews the last four semesters together at the $2.5 million suite in Great Valley, Chester County, Pennsylvania. A capstone design project encompasses the fourth year along with a single semester technology-based entrepreneurship course. A full-time summer internship is required. The general engineering program is accredited by ABET, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.Juniors in the regional general engineering program exhibited embedded software design projects.Image: Elizabeth PalmerContacts: Regina BrosciusLast Updated May 16, 2017Let’s block ads!
